Video: LPB Poody “Best Of Me” ft. Rick Ross

Rising Orlando rapper and Chameleon Ent. Associates signee LPB Poody returns today with a cinematic music video for the Rick Ross-assisted “Best Of Me” produced by Freeway TJay. The emotional track comes from Poody’s recent mixtape I’m The One, which also features high-profile collaborations with Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, and Yung Bleu. The video, directed by Clifton Bell, sets Poody and Ross in a heated strip club heist that evokes Hype Williams’ Belly. Watch it below!

Poody earning a verse from Ross amounts to a coronation from the state’s biggest star. In fact, the video opens with the Maybach Music boss dishing wisdom to Poody about his place in the region’s musical history. The youngster’s verse, ambitious as it is self-aware, acknowledges that he’s gone global while still trying to make it out the hood. The scene of a celebration turned violent depicted in the video reflects this same tensions that’s present in Poody’s music.

“Best Of Me” also shows Poody’s knack for revitalizing iconic source material. The beat flips the timeless piano line from Issac Hayes’ “Ike’s Mood,” sampled by such luminaries as Biz Markei, Juicy J, and Mary J. Blige. Last year, Poody’s breakthrough single “Batman” reworked the percussion from Cali Swag District’s “Teach Me How To Dougie.” That song and its remix featuring Lil Wayne and Moneybagg Yo have racked up over 60 million streams. Poody previously released videos for I’m the One’s “Front To Bacc” and titled track. But if “Best Of Me” is an indication, he’s just getting started.
