Stream: Rob49, Birdman “Hustler’s Anthem V2” ft. Kevin Gates

Rising New Orleans rapper Rob49 unveils his thunderous new single, “Hustler’s Anthem V2,” out today via Rebel Music / Geffen Records. The update on his Robb2B-produced hit from earlier this year pairs the breakout artist with his famous co-signer, Birdman, and another Louisianan: Baton Rouge’s Kevin Gates, who blesses the song with a typically torrid verse. “Hustler’s Anthem V2” is available now.

Rob49’s songs are an exercise in expertly controlled chaos, and “Hustler’s Anthem” is no exception. His trademark “alright” ad-lib makes each line sound like the next in a series of escalating admissions or threats. This mounting tension is released by Gates, whose verse lurches back and forth from the cold blooded to the tantalizingly vulnerable. It’s a heady mix that elevates the track to new heights.

The original version of “Hustler’s Anthem” appeared on April’s Welcome To Vulture Island. That project’s “Vulture Island” was the first of its songs to receive the “V2” treatment, when the Atlanta superstar Lil Baby teamed up with Rob49 to trade verses about the thin line between rap superstardom and the peril that still lurks in the streets.
