Music Review | Beyoncé, Coast Contra, Hit-Boy, LAYA, and Bee-B

New Music

Here’s this weeks’ rundown of new music from some of your favorite artists in the game.

Beyoncé – BREAK MY SOUL

With a new album coming in July, Beyoncé gives audiences an early preview of what lies ahead in song. Her seventh studio album, RENAISSANCE, is due for release July 29, and the Beyhive – a nickname for the Grammy winner’s devoted fanbase – is dancing their way into the summer with “BREAK MY SOUL.” The uptempo track samples Big Freedia’s “Explode” and calls for reinvention through a pulsating bassline that’s guaranteed to make listeners hit the dance floor.

Coast Contra – Never Freestyle

After their late-night television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Coast Contra keeps momentum alive with the release of “Never Freestyle.” The group’s meteoric rise in rap has been well-documented, racking up millions of views on YouTube before landing major co-signs from Dave Chappelle, Questlove, Timbaland, Alchemist, and others. And now, the quartet of MCs have finally serviced their effort to digital streaming platforms.

Hit-Boy, Dom Kennedy – Corsa (East Coast Version)

Closely following the release of their West Coast music video last week, Hit-Boy and Dom Kennedy return with the East Coast visualizer, directed by Thirdeyeraz. Produced by Hit-Boy himself, “Corsa” is the perfect track to get sturdy to. With breathy delivery, Dom Kennedy maneuvers on the beat with an unyielding intention: to disrupt the drill scene in the most player way possible.

LAYA – Sock It 2 Me

Following the release of her critically-acclaimed EP, Um, Hello, earlier this year, LAYA returns with the sultry visual for “Sock It 2 Me” just in time for summer 2022. The Staten Island R&B singer/songwriter’s DIY approach is front and center, bringing her world into vivid focus and fully reflecting her sonic experimental essence.

Bee-B – Do You Mind

Bee-B’s vision of self-love is marked by an arresting voice that promotes feeling free and comfortable in your own skin. “Do You Mind” demonstrates how raw vulnerability can transcend sound. Every melody is filled with unconditional love, leaning into a signature vocal style that empowers listeners in a sexy, fun way that just works.
