“Ask About Amala”

We have now entered an era where female is flourishing more than ever. The lyrics can be found to be more cut throat, they’re not taking any shit! We got the chance to speak with DMV rapstress – Amala about her recent successes. She recently dropped a banger called “Tik Tok” with a killer visual to back it up.

As she emerges through the male dominated industry Amala continues to use her voice not only through her music but throughout the streets as well.

Check out exclusive interview below:

Mikala: Okay, so your Instagram name “Ask about Amala” What is the meaning behind that?

Amala: Please do (laughs)! When I was in High School it was this thing that used to be called Askfm on Twitter and I definitely had that. Everyone would ask me questions, from my personal to my relationships to my sexual to my mental. “Ask about Amala”, come on now!

Mikala: (laughs) I’ve never had one but I remember it though. They was wilding!

Amala: Wildinnnnnnnnng! Nah it was crazy!

Mikala: Now, what sparked your interests in pursuing a rap career?

Amala: My brother’s all did music, I was like alright imma do music, I got this. I went into the studio first and was like oooo… I fucking love my voice. This is it! I just went for it and stuck with it ever since.

Mikala: Who would you say is one of your favorite female artist?

Amala: My favorite female artist of all time is gonna have to be Beyonce. That was a really hard question…but Beyonce, because I really look up to her when it comes to entertaining. When you look at her shows she’s an entertainer from day one. Her energy…it’s always a  unique Beyonce when you go to her shows.

Mikala: Her work ethic is crazyyy!

Amala: See I’m trying to get there!

Mikala: You know in the midst of our recent protests you were actually out there to protest?

Amala: Yes! I’ve been protesting for so long. My mom and I, she instilled in me like you gotta fight for your rights. It was no question, no hesitation to be like “alright, I’m going out”.

Mikala: Do you feel like those who have a bigger voice than others should be out on the frontlines protesting?

Amala: Yeah! Now, everybody is different. Protesting does not mean that you have to actually go and be on the frontlines. For me it works because my voice is powerful and I love screaming my chants and I’m walking for a purpose. If you have a bigger platform you should always use your voice to speak on something that you strongly believe in. I believe in justice and peace; equality is everything. No matter if you’re coming from a racial aspect, political aspect. If you have equality in your life you’re going to treat people much better. You’re going to receive much better love and support.

Mikala: Girl! Yes! Speak on it!

Mikala: You performed for Big Latto, Rubi Rose. How was it performing with them?

Amala: Mulatto was my first kind of show. I opened up for Cardi B when I first started performing. I literally took 2 years off to work on my sound and my craft. I was just coming back so I was like “fuck it”. I’m going hard. The audience was amazing! Oh my God! I loved every single person in the crowd! For Rubi Rose it was packed out. It didn’t even feel like… this is crazy to say but it didn’t feel like we were in the middle of a pandemic (laughs). It was just a lot of amazing people. Rubi’s energy was dope, mine. It was just great energy in the room.

Mikala: Were you nervous because you know you opened up for the crowd bringers!?

Amala: I mean, I loveee performing. Honestly, I get more nervous performing in the studio when I’m in the booth compared to being on stage (laughs). When I’m on stage it’s like “fuck it” let’s just go for it but when I’m in the studio I have to focus. I have to listen to myself and my own thoughts and put it on paper. It’s a lot!

Mikala: When people ask about Amala and your sound, what would you tell them?

Amala: My sound is definitely unapologetic. BOSS BITCH SHIT!

@shotbysed

Mikala: (Laughs) I want to get into your single “Tik Tok”. That has been booming everywhere, no lie!

Amala: “Tik Tok more ice, more cuts on my wrist watch”! Nah, that song is just like…literally inspired by Tik Tok. It was just dope. I wanted something like all of those songs like Beat King, Don Tolliver. It’s so many dope ass artists were you’re like (gasps) that’s a dope song! Let me download that! That’s the energy I wanted to give.

Mikala: I got the chance to watch the visual which was super dope! I wanted to tell you that you have a lot of firmness in you. From your voice to your body language. It’s like I mean what I say!

Amala: Yes! Same with protesting you gotta believe in what you stand for. Every lyric, I’m not ever going to put something down on a piece of paper where I’m not going to do it or I will do it.

Mikala: What is one goal that you want to knock out before the year is up?

Amala: I want to be headlining a tour! I want to travel and get my name out there in all of these different states and let people know “I’m AMALA wassup”!? (Laugh).
