Album Stream: Lil Pete “Deeper Than Rap” + Video: “Gospel”

Lil Pete’s sophomore album, Deeper Than Rap, dropped last week and today he released the video for one of the standout singles, “Gospel.” The $UZYMADEIT-directed video draws inspiration from the track’s title as it juxtaposes nighttime on the block with scenes from church, as Lil Pete takes to the pulpit to reflect on the consequences of the streets. “Lost everything I love so don’t tell me bout no fun, I live life on the edge, prolly wish I had a son,” Lil Pete casually raps but the weight of his words is palpable. This knack for translating pain and hardship with such ease is what has kept Lil Pete’s fans hooked and led to his videos earning more than 130 million views across his YouTube channel alone. Lil Pete released his long-awaited sophomore album, Deeper Than Rap, this past Friday via his imprint PUBLIC HOUSIN’ and EMPIRE. Following the release of his star-studded debut album in 2019, Lil Pete approached Deeper Than Rap with renewed focus as he patiently put together his strongest project to date. In his trademark fashion, Lil Pete kept features to a minimum with every verse providing a compelling addition to the track. On “4ES Freestyle,” which was released with a music video last week, he connected with fellow Bay Area native, Bez19. “Shoot Sumn” features incarcerated rapper Lil Boodah who recorded his verse through the jail phone and on the closing track, “Not The Same,” Lil Pete connects with San Francisco favorite Lil Bean. Additional features include Diddle, Pahp and Vae Vanilla. Listen below!
