LA’s Darnell Williams is gearing up to share the bass-heavy “Turbo, (ft. Reese LaFlare),” with bars that embrace the lavish lifestyle he’s worked hard for, “She know I got a big ego, but my bills bigger.” It’s club-ready, as they say. Darnell lets loose when he wants to, but the Detroit-bred artist stays true to what’s important, like calling his mom every morning (he’s up early on PST, she’s on EST back home), and opening up about the perils of Hollywood. Get you a man that can do both.

Darnell Williams makes music that reflects the juxtaposition of his upbringing — he comes from humble beginnings, raised by a single mother in a low-income area on the west side of Detroit, and when he moved to LA  he parlayed a successful career as one of the early members of the video collective illRoots to work on music videos for the likes of Mac Miller and Big Sean. In 2013, Darnell left illRoots to pursue his dream as an artist, leaving himself homeless, sleeping on couches in South Central L.A. In a few short years Darnell got his rap career on track, garnering co-signs from Travis Scott and Chance The Rapper, signing with 12-Tone (Anderson .Paak’s label), and gearing up to drop his upcoming project. If his recent “Fuck Hollywood,” and “Turbo,” are any indicator, the new project will be equal parts party-anthem and reflection.
